‘Silvana’

Chance seedling, found by Johannes van Leuven at Geldem-Lullingen in September 2007. “‘Silvana’ is the first silver leaf bud heather.”

‘Red Angie’

‘Golden Joy’

Flowers white; III-V; foliage yellow-gold; habit upright. Very nice bright yellow and tightly upright and distinct from ‘Estrella Gold‘; more floriferous than ‘Albert’s Gold‘ and easier to propagate.

‘Winter Treasure’

Corolla pink; sepals red-brown, buds dark and flowers clear pink; XI-V; foliage dark green; habit loose, upright.

‘Arro’

Rose-purple flowers, II–III; foliage tiny dark green leaves; very compact habit created by the many short side shoots; height 10–15cm; spread 16–20cm. It has the same habit as ‘Sneznik‘, only even more compact and with a stronger flower colour. The mini-flowers are densely packed.

Chance seedling in Brita Johansson’s garden: it “came up near to ‘Sneznik‘ 6 or 7 years ago”.

Arro is the name of one of Mrs Johansson’s daughter’s ferrets!

‘Nessie’

Striking purple (HIO) flowers; VI-VIII; foliage mid-green; habit: spreading; height 15cm; spread 30cm after 3 years. Wild-collected in Scotland in 2004 by Margareta Dahlin and Brita Johansson. We “took cuttings … from a plant with a striking purple colour, hoping that it would prove hardier than cultivars from south England. So far it has behaved very well”.

Nessie is the name of the Dahlins’ Portuguese water-dog: “Of course Loch Ness is in the background.”

‘Vossbarg’

Flower  corola pink and bell-shaped; calyx pink; V-VI; foliage green; Growth similar to Erica arborea; height 50cm; spread 30cm after 3 years in 50 cm.

Vossbarg (= fox hill) is the name of the area around Kramer’s house.

‘Pretty Polly’

Flowers single, 10mm x 5mm; corolla lilac pink (Hll), calyx heliotrope (H12); XII-V; foliage very dark green with red tips in spring; habit neat, low, spreading mound; height 25mm; spread 50mm.

Sport on ‘W. G. Pine‘, found in 1997 by Ken Hutchins at Oregon Rhododendrons, Corvalis, USA.

Named from a play on the word polyploid (having a chromosone number more than double the basic or haploid number); “probably a tertraploid but not tested”.

‘Yule Fire’

Flower single, corolla & calyx amethyst HI; VII-X; foliage shoots with bicoloured golden ends with brilliant glossy red inner leaves, colours deepen to orange and red in winter cold; habit compact spreading height 20cm; spread 40cm.

Sport on ‘Atropurpurea‘, found by Ken Hutchins at Oregon Rhododendrons, Corvalis, USA, in 1994. “Distinctive bicolored foliage gives winter foliage color in areas that can not grow Calluna. The red is much more brilliant than other gold” bell heathers.
