‘Graceful Muxoll’

❁ Flowers “double”, all upwards-pointing on pedicels longer than corolla; corolla cylindrical, 11mm long, 5mm wide, deep H9 at the base, shading to H2/H12 at tip; inner petals white; flowers do not drop after fading; VII-X; Buds deep H9, develop to good size long before opening, adding very much to the floral display. Foliage: deep green. Habit: nearly upright, spikes a little arching: after 3 years, 25cm tall, 30cm across.

Deliberately raised and selected by Jens Kjaerbol; parent plants include ‘Charles Nelson‘ and ‘White Blum‘; other cultivars have also been used in production of double-flowered plants.

‘Meerstal’

No flowers, the infloresence is replaced by l-2cm long hairy caterpillar-like shoots; “flowering” VII-VIII; foliage grey-green; height maximum 25 cm.
A monstrosity, found by J. Baron in August 1984 in the Balloerveld, Province Drenthe, Holland. Registered on 20 December 2005, by J. Baron (per J. Flecken).

‘Orange Beauty’ (=Erica mammosa)

Corolla salmon-red, large, tubular; calyx salmon- red; September-December. Foliage light green. Habit upright, slightly bushy, sparsely and unevenly branching; after 5 years 120cm tall; 50cm wide.

Erica mammosa

The flowers are inflated-tubular with a closed mouth and are 15–20 mm long; form dense spike-like inflorescences, up to 200 mm long, towards the tips of the main branches; borne singly or in pairs in the axil of a leaf; colour varies from locality to locality and from bush to bush, ranging from orange-red, purple, dark red, greenish cream, and white, to various shades of pink; bright attractive flowers can be found throughout the year but mainly in summer and autumn (December to April). After pollination the flowers dry, each holds a fruit with 4 locules/chambers containing numerous small seeds. The seeds are shed when ripe. Slow-growing and long-lived, robust, erect, well-branched shrub, 0.5–1.0 m tall, growing to a height of 1.8 m if left undisturbed. It has small, linear leaves, 6–10 mm long, arranged in whorls of 4 to 6.

‘Phoebe’

Corolla rose-pink; calyx rose-pink; X-I; foliage dark green; habit compact, bushy; after 3 years 15cm tall, 25cm across.

Chance seedling at Forest Edge Nurseries, in found by David Edge in 2003; believed to be a cross between Erica carnea ‘Treasure Trove’ and Erica erigena ‘Irish Dusk’.

Named from a large chunk of rock that goes around Saturn at an odd angle.

‘Margareta Dahlin’

Flowers smaller than usual: corolla magenta (H14), calyx deep magenta (H14); III-V (in Sweden); earliest cultivar to flower in Sweden; foliage deep rusty in Spring, later deep golden; habit spreading to 15cm tall, 40cm across in 5 years.
Seedling; found and propagated by John Proudfoot, Almondel Nursery, Methven, Perthshire, Scotland, c. 1995. Registered on 13 February 2005, by Brita. Johansson Musselvagen 3, 468 34 Vargon, Sweden.

‘Jennie Nimlin’

Flowers heliotrope (H12), calyx slightly darker than corolla; III-V (in Sweden); foliage green, yellow and orange in Spring, later deep golden; habit compact, to 15cm tall, to 30cm across in 4 years. Overall appearance is softer than any other Erica carnea.

‘Ute’

♤ Bud-flowering: corolla and calyx light pink; buds medium-size; IX-XI; foliage light green; habit upright, very bushy, after 5 years 70cm tall, 50cm across. Chance seedling, found by Johannes van Leuven in September 2002. Because it is so similar to ‘Dapiali‘, not being introduced into the trade.
Named after Ute, a worker in van Leuven’s nursery.
