‘Irish Treasure’

Flowers single; corolla salmon pink; calyx cream; in sturdy upright flower spikes: XI-V; foliage mid-green; habit compact, spreading, floriferous. Differs from other cultivars in its distinct salmon pink flowers, early and long flowering; its habit makes it excellent for containers.

Deliberately raised hybrid; a selection by David Wilson from the cross made by him in 1998 between Erica carnea ‘Treasure Trove’ and Erica erigena Irish Dusk’; first flowered 2000, selected 2002. Registered on 29 September 2003 by David Wilson.

Named by David Small; name derived from the first words in the epithets of the parent cultivars, Erica erigenaIrish Dusk‘ and Erica carneaTreasure Trove‘.

‘Highway One’

Flowers light pink (lavender pink); VIII-IX; foliage fairly dark green; very vigorous, erect, to 25cm across.

Selected chance seeding; found on Highway One in Fort Bragg, California, USA. Registered on 5 December 2003 by Homer C. Ferguson.

Named from the locality where it was found.

‘Ellen Norris’

Young flowers rich velvety red (H9) before the corolla has fully opened, becoming amethyst (HI); corolla <lcm when fully open; with very sparse hairs when very young, when fully expanded appearing smooth and virtually hairless; erect flowering shoots to 40cm, with 12-15 bells; VII-X; leaves c. 0.5cm long, bright mid-green; habit stiff, erect, compact 15(-40)cm tall, spread 30cm (after 4-5 years).

Chance seedling in Paddy van Adrichem’s garden, near Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Named by Joyce Prothero in memory of Ellen Norris (2 March 1928 – 12 September 2003), the “Heather Lady” of British Columbia.

Registered on 14 October 2003 by Vancouver Island Heather Chapter.

‘Anke-Lisa’

Chance seedling found in September 2001; selected by Johannes van Leuven. Submitted for plant breeders’ rights in October 2001 in Germany; Registered on 2 January 2003 by Johannes van Leuven.
Named by J. van Leuven after his god-daughter.

‘Alberta White’

Flowers single, corolla white, 12x8mm; calyx bright green; VI-IX; foliage bright green; habit erect.

‘Ahrensdorf’

♤ Light purple (H10) bud-bloomer; IX-XI(XII); foliage dark green; habit bushy, compact, height 15cm; spread 20cm.

Wild-collected: found by Kurt Kramer in 1995 near Ahrensdorf. Registered on 25 July 2003 by Kurt Kramer.

‘Strathspey’

Flowers lavender with dark anthers, VIII-IX; Foliage “bronze, turning fiery-red in winter”, yellow(green); colours in winter much quicker than other foliage cultivars; habit upright, to 30cm tall, to 45cm across after 3 years. Chance seedling at Speyside Heather Centre, Dulmain Bridge, Inverness-shire; on sale in August 2004 at the Second International Heather Conference. Named: after the region in which it originated.
