‘Tracy Wilson’

Pale pink, flowers, slightly fragrant, in compact cylindrical spikes; VII–X; foliage light green, the new shoots tipped creamy yellow; habit compact, spreading; height 21–25cm; spread 31–45cm. A selected seedling from a deliberate cross between Erica tetralix ‘Melbury White’ and Erica manipuliflora ‘Korçula’ raised in 1996 by David Wilson (Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada). Registered 25 November 1999 David Wilson, 6605 Hopedale Road, Chilliwack, British Columbia, V2R 4L4, Canada.

‘Oldenburg’

White flowers, III-V, with mid-green Erica arborea like foliage. Broad spreading habit. This hybrid was deliberately raised by Kurt Kramer in Germany and named after the region in which he lives.

‘Ammerland’

Flower-buds white, opening white gradually changing to lilac-pink (H11) as they mature; calyx white with green tips to segments; anthers dark red-brown,; (XII)-II-V; with mid-green foliage which is tipped with vivid orange in spring. Looking more like Erica arborea, it has a much more compact and rounded habit.

Seedling selected from a group of seedlings raised from Erica arborea deliberately crosssed with Erica carnea; raised by Kurt Kramer (Edewecht-Süddorf, Germany) in 1986; introduced by the raiser in 1994.

Named after a region in northern Germany.

‘Aurora’

❁ Double rose-pink flowers, VIII–X; mid-green foliage; height 21–25cm; spread 31–45cm. Gold medal at BUGA, Potsdam, 2001.

‘Alba Plena’

❁ Double white flowers, VIII–X, with mid-green foliage; height 26–30cm; spread 31–45cm.

Wild-collected; a sport on a white-flowered plants (C. vulgaris f. alba); found near Oldenburg, Germany, by A. Lamken (Giesselhorst, Germany) in 1934; introduced by 1938. But this was listed as early as 1864 by André, and as early as 1805! Johnson (1950) stated “A curious feature of this novelty is that the first flowers to appear are singles and it is not until their season has advanced a few weeks that they assume their true character.”

Named from albus = white; a reference to flower colour; plenus = full (i.e. double).

‘Alec Martin’

❁ Double white flowers, VIII–XI (lasting longer than ‘Kinlochruel’); dark green foliage; dome-like habit; height 16–20cm; spread 31–45cm.
